Mental Health First Response™ Instructor Training:
- Experience in teaching, conducting workshops and seminars
- Able to stand on stage/platform and in front of a large audience of diverse ages, cultures and backgrounds.
- Experience in mental health, psychology, psychiatry, guidance counseling, public health, social work or another social services field.
- MHFR prospective instructors will need to complete our application form in order to apply as a MHFR instructor.

- In order to become a Mental Health First Response Instructor, you will need to be trained and certified as a Mental Health First Responder first.
- You will need to attend the 2 days (8 hours each day) Mental Health First Response Instructor Training course in order to teach the MHFR to the general public.
- After completing the 2-day MHFR instructor training you will be considered an instructor-in-training.
- An instructor-in-training will have to teach the first two MHFR trainings under the supervision of the master trainer for program fidelity and overall quality control.
- In addition to the above requirements, the following additional requirements are needed to become a certified trainer:
- Experience in teaching, conducting workshops and seminars
- Able to stand on stage/platform and in front of a large audience of diverse ages, cultures and backgrounds.
- Experience in mental health, psychology, psychiatry, guidance counseling, public health, social work or another social services field.
- Once fully certified as a MHFR instructor, it is required for the instructor to teach the program at least five times a year in order to maintain the instructor certification in good standing.
- A fully certified MHFR instructor will be invited to teach the MHFR training to the public and will act as an agent of MHFR. They will be considered as an independent contractor of MHFR.
- Fully certified MHFR instructors will be compensated as an independent contractor based on their overall experience in the field of mental health, educational attainment, and professional licensure.
- The Mental Health First Response office will provide all the training materials and workbooks.
- All printed materials and training structure are copyrighted by MHFR and can be used only after written permission is obtained from MHFR. Any individual or company wishing to present this material to a group will need to complete the instructor training program and coordinate with MHFR .
